A compulsory reporting point is a published position, often a landmark, where VFR pilots must report to ATC or the aerodrome. Reporting points are named by letters such as November or Whiskey.

    German term

They are shown on the aerodrome's VFR approach chart and define entry and exit routes for controlled and many uncontrolled aerodromes. On-request reporting points only require a report when asked.

    In practice

Identify the landmark on the ground before calling — reporting the wrong position is a common cause of conflicts.
