Minimum height (VFR)
Airspace & rules
← All glossary terms
Under SERA.5005(f), VFR flights must fly at least 1,000 ft above the highest obstacle within 600 m over congested areas, and at least 500 ft above ground or water elsewhere — except for take-off and landing.

- Sicherheitsmindesthöhe (VFR)
These are minimums; national rules can add requirements, and some areas such as nature reserves have published recommended heights. Low flying also reduces your options after an engine failure.
In practice
Plan cruise altitudes that keep a glide option to a landing field, not only the legal minimum.
